What is this Google Holiday 100 list, and how was it made?

Google's Holiday 100 list comes out every year and features 100 gift ideas. It's made by analyzing at what people are searching for from June to September 2023. Checking to see which items are getting more attention than before, Google picks items that fit into any of these four main categories:

  • Things that are suddenly popular or highly searched

  • Things getting the most searches ever

  • Things that are getting more interest than before the pandemic

  • Particularly special or important items (disclaimer: my hunch is that it could be paid advertising by some of the brands, but I haven’t actively looked for evidence of that)
